At this point you are done, but if you are feeling extra crafty and want to make it one of a kind you can decorate with waterproof paint. Make sure you leave the spot on the jar where the ruler is open and unpainted.

Rain gauges need to not be obstructed by trees or overhangs. Place them in an open spot for the most accurate readings.

Mother Nature can be a beautiful thing, bright colors, warm sun and sometimes perfect days. It’s when she’s in a bad mood you want to stay away and hope she blows over without any problems. Of course tornados or hurricanes can damage property in a heartbeat, but do you ever worry about lightning? The bright beautiful flash of light that shows you everything for a brief moment can be seriously dangerous. Just recently, one small child was playing in the rain on a warm summer’s day only to be standing in the wrong spot at the wrong time. She was standing under a tall tree in her front yard, but all changed in one fleeting moment. The bolt of lightning hit the tree and instantly killed the child. In one second a family’s life was changed forever. We must respect the world around us, its beauty and all it mood swings. Keep safe if you just can’t resist checking out the storms.

One thing you are probably not noticing when a storm hits is all the people who come out to see it. Of course, protected by their garage roof, but hardly protected at all. The urge to see what happening and the smell of the rain has such a hold on some they just can’t resist going outside. Why do we put our lives in danger to see the storm?

A storm took a town in Minnesota by surprise last week. Two minutes after the sirens went off a tornado touched down. Two minutes, that’s all! Many people on the news said they heard the sirens but went outside to see what was going on. Luckily no one was hurt by this tornado.

Why go outside to see, why not take cover? Are we immune to the sirens? Do we not believe there is immediate danger?

Check out your siding, even a small corner that is no longer attached can open your home up to damage. Water can leak under your siding and cause damage you won’t even be able to see until it is too late.

Roof shingle will have dents, but they are very hard to see with the untrained eye. A shingle missing is again one of those easily identifiable items. It’s the hard to recognize storm damage, and left untouched can leave you open to additional repairs from a covered claim you should have filed when the storm hit.

Windows, garage doors and air conditioners can also be damaged by storms, especially by hail.

Dents on your home can be a strong indicator of damage and should be checked out by a professional contractor.

A contractor should offer a free inspection and let you know what damage your house had received if any.
